In September of 2009, the Coolidge Youth Coalition competed for and won an Award for a Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant (DFC) from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) out of the White House. The Coolidge Youth Coalition applied for Drug Free Communities Funding again in 2014 and was awarded another 5 years under the DFC Program. The current DFC Grant is renewable subject to achieving the primary goals of the DFC Program which must have the reduction of substance abuse among youth as its principal mission along with strengthening the collaboration among surrounding communities to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
Our coalition is comprised of two staff, school leaders, parents, students, law enforcement, media, healthcare, local businesses, and religious leaders who have come together for a common purpose – to collaborate and help reduce substance abuse among youth in Coolidge.
